Corrosion resistance

General corrosion resistance

Monel 400 alloy exhibits good corrosion resistance in a variety of corrosive media, including seawater, salt water, neutral salt solutions, weak acids, weak bases, and a variety of organic solvents. Its corrosion resistance is mainly due to its high nickel and copper content, which can form a dense oxide film to protect the alloy matrix from corrosion.

Seawater corrosion resistance

Monel 400 alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in seawater environments, which makes it one of the preferred materials in the field of marine engineering. Its seawater corrosion resistance is better than that of copper-based alloys, and it can maintain stable performance under long-term seawater immersion.

Acid corrosion resistance

Monel 400 alloy has good corrosion resistance in sulfuric acid with a concentration of less than 85%, and also exhibits certain corrosion resistance to other acidic media such as hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid. However, it should be noted that in strong acid environments, such as concentrated sulfuric acid or concentrated nitric acid, the corrosion resistance of Monel 400 alloy may be affected to a certain extent.
