What should you pay attention to when using silicon metal?

Precautions

1. Silicon metal reacts with water at high temperatures to generate hydrogen, posing an explosion risk. Maintain a dry environment during storage and use. Store in a dry, ventilated warehouse away from sources of fire, heat, and corrosive substances (such as acids and alkalis). Protect from rain. Avoid direct contact between silicon metal powder and water, and strictly control the humidity of the raw materials, especially during the smelting process.
2. Silicon metal powder is flammable. When mixed with air and reaching a certain concentration, it may explode when exposed to open flames, high temperatures, or static electricity. Avoid open flames in the processing area. Equipment should be properly grounded to eliminate static electricity, and fire extinguishing equipment (such as dry powder fire extinguishers) should be available.
3. When smelting with other metals (such as aluminum and magnesium) to form alloys, strictly control the temperature and reaction time. Silicon metal has a melting point of approximately 1410°C. At high temperatures, it easily reacts with oxygen to form silicon dioxide, which affects the purity of the alloy. Therefore, smelting should be carried out under an inert gas or reducing atmosphere. 4. Metal silicon waste (such as scraps and dust) generated during the processing process is general industrial solid waste and needs to be collected and sorted. It can be recycled and reused or handed over to professional institutions for treatment and must not be discarded at will.
