In the production and procurement of stainless steel, "hot rolling" and "cold rolling" are two methods of stainless steel production. Different Production Processes The fundamental difference between hot-rolled and cold-rolled stainless steel begins with the difference in processing temperature and process flow. This difference directly lays the foundation for all the different subsequent properties of the two.

Hot-rolled Stainless Steel: The hot rolling process is carried out at temperatures above the recrystallization temperature of stainless steel (usually above 900℃, and for some materials above 1000℃). Its core process is as follows: first, the stainless steel billet is cut into specified specifications, then heated at high temperature to significantly increase its plasticity, and then continuously pressed by roughing and finishing mills to finally form products such as plates and coils, which are then cooled to complete the processing.

Cold-rolled stainless steel: Cold rolling is carried out at or near room temperature. The raw material is typically a semi-finished product, such as hot-rolled coils, after pickling and descaling. No additional heating is required during processing; the material is continuously thinned by the high pressure of the rolls, reducing the sheet thickness to less than 20% of its original thickness. To mitigate work hardening (the material becoming harder and more brittle) during rolling, annealing is usually performed to restore the material's ductility. Finally, the material is leveled, sheared, and packaged to complete production.
