Calcium Silicon As Desulfurization Agent: Calcium has an extremely strong affinity for sulfur (much higher than iron). At high temperatures, it reacts with sulfur (S) in the molten metal to form calcium sulfide (CaS). Calcium Silicon As Desulfurization Agent has a high melting point (2450°C) and a low density (2.58 g/cm³), making it easily floats from the molten metal to the slag layer, thereby achieving desulfurization.

 Accurately calculate the addition amount: The amount should be based on the initial sulfur content of the molten metal, the target sulfur content, and the calcium recovery rate of the silicon-calcium alloy. Excessive addition will result in wasted calcium and may also form excessive inclusions. Insufficient addition will fail to achieve the desulfurization target. The typical addition amount is 0.1%-0.5% of the molten metal mass.

 Choose the right time to add calcium: In steelmaking, it's recommended to add calcium before tapping or during the refining stage. Avoid adding calcium in the early stages of smelting, when the molten metal temperature is low and calcium is more volatile and prone to premature reaction with other elements, reducing desulfurization efficiency.

 Ensure adequate contact: Lumpy calcium silicon alloy should be added directly to the high-temperature zone of the molten pool to accelerate dissolution. Powdered calcium silicon alloy should be injected deep into the molten metal using an inert gas lance to prevent it from oxidizing on the surface and improving calcium utilization.
