Metallurgical Grade Silicon 553, also known as industrial silicon 553, is a non-ferrous alloy product made from quartz sand and carbonaceous reducing agents (such as charcoal, coal, petroleum coke, etc.) by high temperature smelting in an electric furnace. With its high silicon content and low impurity content, it is widely used in a variety of industrial fields, and is an important basic raw material in the field of silicon materials.

 

 

"553" indicates the content of the three main impurities of iron (Fe), aluminum (Al) and calcium (Ca) in metal silicon, and the unit is a few thousandths (‰). Specific criteria are as follows:

Iron (Fe) ≤ 0.5%
Aluminum (Al) ≤ 0.5%
Calcium (Ca) ≤ 0.3%

 

The SiMe 553 is usually silver-gray and has high hardness and good thermal conductivity. Its chemical properties are stable, not easy to react with oxygen in the air, and the melting point is high, suitable for high temperature environment.

 

The core process of producing SiMe 553 is electric furnace smelting. The specific steps are as follows:

Raw material preparation: high purity quartz (SiO₂) and high-quality coke as the main raw materials, while adding an appropriate amount of wood chips or coal;
High temperature reduction: the quartz is reduced to silicon by electric arc furnace at high temperature, while the impurities are removed;
Smelting separation: control smelting temperature and additives, reduce impurities to 553 standard range;
Ingot cooling: molten silicon is cooled to form metal ingot, which is then broken into particles or powders of the desired size.

 

SiMe 553 is widely used in many industrial fields due to its moderate price and excellent performance:

Aluminum alloy production: as an additive to aluminum alloy, improve the strength, corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity of the alloy;
Silicone material: used to manufacture silicone rubber, silicone oil, silicone resin and other polymer materials;
Solar photovoltaic industry: it is one of the basic raw materials for polysilicon and monocrystalline silicon production;
Chemical industry: For the manufacture of silicides and other chemical products.
