Production Process of High-Grade Metallurgical Silicon
The core of high grade metallurgical silicon production is carbothermal reduction + out-of-furnace refining + purification.
Raw Material Preparation: Selected high-purity silica (SiO₂), low-ash carbon reducing agents (petroleum coke and charcoal) are crushed, dried, and mixed in proportion.
Electric Arc Furnace Smelting: At a high temperature of 1800–2000℃, carbon reduces silica to produce crude silicon (purity approximately 98.5%–99%).
Out-of-Furnace Refining: Impurities such as iron, aluminum, and calcium are removed through methods such as gas blowing (oxygen/argon) and slag formation, increasing the purity to 99.8%–99.99%.
High-Purity Purification (as needed): Further purification to over 99.999% (photovoltaic/electronic grade) is achieved through processes such as chlorination distillation, hydrogen reduction, or zone melting.
Casting and Forming: The molten silicon is cast and cooled into silicon ingots, then crushed, screened, cleaned, quality inspected, and vacuum-packed.

Application Scenarios
Photovoltaic Industry: As a direct raw material for photovoltaic-grade polycrystalline silicon (SoG-Si), after purification by the Siemens method and fluidized bed method, it is drawn into silicon rods and sliced into photovoltaic silicon wafers, which are the core substrate of solar cells. It reduces carrier recombination and improves the conversion efficiency and long-term reliability of photovoltaic cells.
Semiconductors: High-purity silicon is the basic material for power semiconductors, radio frequency chips, and logic chips, determining the device's voltage resistance, switching speed, and stability. Used in high-end fields such as infrared optical silicon and detector-grade silicon.
Aluminum Alloy Manufacturing: As an additive to aluminum alloys, metal silicon is added to molten aluminum to prepare aluminum-silicon alloys (Al-Si). Silicon improves the fluidity, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys and reduces the coefficient of thermal expansion.
