Q1: Can 301 semi-hard stainless steel sheet be bent? Will it crack?
A1: Yes, it can be bent normally and will not crack. 301 semi-hard stainless steel sheet has an elongation of ≥10%, supports 90° bending, R-angle forming, and light stamping. It is recommended that the bending radius be ≥1.5 × sheet thickness to avoid excessively sharp bends. Bending process guidance can be provided to ensure smooth processing.
Q2: Which is more corrosion-resistant, 301 semi-hard stainless steel or 304 stainless steel?
A2: Under normal operating conditions, their corrosion resistance is similar. 301 semi-hard stainless steel has a slightly lower nickel content (6-8%) than 304 stainless steel. In the cold-worked state, its corrosion resistance in highly corrosive environments (such as strong acids and high salt spray) is slightly inferior to annealed 304, but far superior to 200 series stainless steel, fully meeting the needs of ordinary industrial, construction, and electronic applications.
Q3: Is 301 semi-hard stainless steel magnetic? Will it affect its use?
A3: Yes, it is magnetic, which is normal and does not affect its performance. 301 stainless steel is metastable austenitic. After cold work hardening, it undergoes a martensitic phase transformation, resulting in weak to moderate magnetism. This is suitable for applications where magnetism is not critical. If a non-magnetic material is required, annealed 301 or 304 stainless steel can be selected.
