1/4-inch Duplex stainless steel plate is a high-performance alloy known for its exceptional strength, durability, and resistance to corrosion. Combining austenitic and ferritic structures, Duplex stainless steel offers superior properties to standard stainless steels like 304 and 316.
When annealed, 304/304L stainless steel has between 40 and 50 percent ferrite. Chloride stress corrosion cracking issues with 304/304L or 316/316L stainless steel have been practically resolved by 2205.
In most conditions, the high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen offer better corrosion resistance than 316/316L and 317L stainless steel.
Because 2205 has a far higher design strength than 316/316L, lighter wall construction is frequently possible. When temperatures drop below -40°F, 2205's notch impact toughness remains strong. E2209 or ER2209 fillers are used to weld 2205.
