High carbon ferrosilicon, also known as silicon-carbon alloy or high carbon silicon, is a new alloy used in converters. It can serve as a substitute for ferrosilicon, silicon carbide, and carburizer, reducing the need for deoxidizers in the converter smelting deoxidation and alloying process. This alloy provides stable effects, yielding improved chemical composition, mechanical properties, and internal quality of steel compared to traditional methods.

Properties of high carbon ferro silicon
The silicon element (Si) in high carbon ferrosilicon has both deoxidation and desulfurization capabilities, while carbon (C) contributes to carburization and deoxidation. Including these elements in the deoxidizer aims to enhance steel quality. High carbon ferrosilicon leverages the beneficial properties of silicon and carbon in the deoxidation process, forming a composite deoxidizer with strong affinity for silicon, carbon, and oxygen, resulting in significant deoxidation power.
As high carbon ferrosilicon primarily consists of [Si] and [C], its deoxidation products easily float to the surface and can be removed without contaminating the molten steel. This reduces the risk of inclusions like Al₂O₃ and offers some ability to remove sulfur ([S]) and phosphorus ([P]). Additionally, the high silicon content in this deoxidizer can serve as a cost-effective and energy-efficient alternative to traditional ferrosilicon alloys, which are energy-intensive, challenging to produce, and expensive.
