The silicon content typically ranges from 40% to 75%, making it a typical high-energy-consuming but performance-critical industrial material. High-quality industrial-grade ferrosilicon must meet three core standards: first, stable silicon content; second, extremely low impurity levels (aluminum ≤1.5%, carbon ≤0.2%, phosphorus ≤0.04%, sulfur ≤0.02%); and third, uniform physical form with a crushing rate controlled within 5%. During production, electricity prices and raw material quality directly impact costs. Advanced manufacturers achieve a balance between environmental protection and efficiency through flue gas recovery technology, and the silicon powder byproduct can be reused as a concrete additive, improving resource utilization.

Steelmaking Industry: A core material for deoxidation and alloying. In steelmaking, ferrosilicon plays a dual role: as a powerful deoxidizer, it removes free oxygen from molten steel through precipitation deoxidation and diffusion deoxidation, preventing defects such as pores and inclusions in the steel; as an alloying agent, adding an appropriate amount of silicon to steel significantly improves the strength, hardness, elasticity, and magnetic properties of the steel, especially suitable for the production of special steels such as transformer silicon steel and spring steel. In addition, ferrosilicon powder can be used as a heating agent in ingot molds, releasing high heat to reduce shrinkage defects and increasing the yield of steel ingots by 3%-5%.
Casting Industry: A key additive for inoculation and spheroidization. In cast iron production, ferrosilicon is a core additive affecting the quality of castings. As an inoculant, ferrosilicon promotes graphite precipitation, prevents the formation of white iron structures, and improves the machinability and toughness of gray cast iron, enabling the tensile strength of castings to exceed 250 MPa; as a base material for spheroidizing agents, when used in combination with magnesium and rare earth elements, it can increase the graphite spheroidization rate of ductile iron from 80% to 95%, and the elongation to 18%, widely used in automotive parts, machine tool castings, and other fields.

Other extended applications in industrial fields: In ferroalloy and non-ferrous metal smelting, high-silicon ferrosilicon, due to its extremely low carbon content, can be used as a reducing agent in the magnesium extraction process (Pidgeon process), and is a core raw material for the production of metallic magnesium. In the chemical industry, high-purity ferrosilicon (silicon content ≥99%) is used to produce silicone resins with a temperature resistance exceeding 300°C. In the mineral processing industry, heavy medium suspensions prepared with atomized ferrosilicon powder (density 4.7 g/cm³) can increase the recovery rate of diamond to 98%.
