Production Process of Low-Cost Smelting Raw Material Calcium Silicon Alloy
It is generally produced using either the electrocarbothermal or electrosilicothermal methods. Low-Cost Smelting Raw Material Calcium Silicon Alloy uses silica, lime, and coke as its primary raw materials. These are mixed in specific proportions and placed in an electric furnace at 1500-1800°C in a strongly reducing atmosphere. Under these high temperatures, the raw materials undergo a complex series of chemical reactions. For example, lime (CaO) and silica (SiO₂) first form a calcium silicate slag with a low melting point. Subsequently, a carbonaceous reducing agent (such as coke) undergoes a reduction reaction with the components in the slag, gradually forming a calcium-silicon alloy. During this process, calcium, due to its low boiling point, readily evaporates, producing calcium vapor. SiO₂ is also reduced to SiO₂ (gas). Therefore, the gases discharged from the furnace are primarily CO, Ca (gas), and SiO₂ (gas).
