It is added to the steel stream during tapping, further reducing the oxygen content in combination with ferrosilicon and ferromanganese.  Grain refinement: CaSi can act as a nucleation agent to promote the formation of a fine, uniform grain structure, which further improves the mechanical properties of the steel.
